Yesterday i downloaded a couple of windows updates and when i restarted my pc it wouldn't connect to the internet.
After exploring all possible causes i discovered that the updates had closed all the ports on my pc (i think).

So i looked for the updates in add/remove programs and uninstalled them and rebooted my pc and it worked fine again.

The offending updates were.. Update for Windows XP (KB951978) and Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748).

If i knew more about the tinterweb i probably could have worked out how to open the correct ports or something probably.

BEWARE! BEWARE the naughty windows updates!

I just installed some Windows updates and when I started Firefox it had reset itself to original settings and had re-installed all my add-ons as if I'd only just got them.

Clearly you're all crap and don't know how to update.

Happened to me so i took the plunge and finally went for vista on my main pc of course that was before i learnt the reason why i couldnt get onto the internet..fucking zone alarm

I had to finalize a Vista install the other day.

I could have fully installed and updated XP twice in the time it took for Vista initial boot + Windows Update run.
