Vegetto will become famous soon enoughVegetto will become famous soon enough
Vegetech Box II

Boys and girls,

The time has arrived for me to build my next beast, that i will be ordering today, but before i do, i'd like any brief comments on the setup, as this works well for me in the past (Yeh i've asked this before, but i changed my mind loads and had financial problems heh)
My main concern is the whole SLI/Crossfire bollocks. I'll be going for an nvidia 8800 card, but not an nForce chipset mobo, as apparently these suck ass compared to the p35, so was unsure if there's a performance hit there with a single card on a P35 Mobo (two GTS's aint gonna happen heh).

So here we are in full:

PSU: 620W Coolermaster Real Power M620 Modular PSU SLi, PCI-E, SATA, 80%+ Eff' ATX 12V V2.3 EPS 12V V2.91 £69.90
Cracking PSU and brand, modular only for me.

RAM: 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, DHX £40.70
Enough said.

CASE: Antec 900 - Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case with 200m Top Fan w/o PSU £69.97
Could house several polish workers and still have room left, stunning case.

MOBO: Asus P5KC, iP35, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2/DDR3 1066/1333/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £75.61
Asus,combo,P35.

FAN: Zalman CNPS9700-LED Super Aero Flower Cooler (775/AM2/754/939/940) £34.65
Best Fan cooler money can buy imo. (Though the NT one is slightly better)

GFX: 512MB EVGA 8800GTS, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), Mem 1940 MHz, GDDR3, GPU 650 MHz, Dual DVI/HDTV, + Crysis Game £211.37
Going to buy Crysis anyway, so realistically, the card for me is , say £180. the GT is like £165, so worth the extra £15, and i can't SLI them on that mobo anyway.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0 SLACR, 95W, S775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, OEM £152.74
Amazing CPU, but fancied the wolfdale 45nm C2D's at higher frequencies and bit cheaper, though i doubt i'd upgrade CPU for another while, and quads may be more needed eventually, and the wolfdales are out of stock, so this is probably best.

CD: ASUS 2014L1T 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, x14 DVD-RAM, SATA, Lightscribe, Black OEM £18.20

O/S: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit 1Pk OEM (DVD) £58.86
More stuff will be optimized for this i imagine and it looks cool, mixed reviews on it. When the 64-bit is stable and not shit i'll get that, as it supports more than 3.5GB RAM.

£744 with delivery

A couple of things not perfect there, but overall think it's a very capable setup. Any comments greatly appreciated before i take the plunge shortly. Ta.

Yeh i didn't forget. I currently got a Western Digital 250GB 7,200RPM. Pointless getting another.

However, yes, i'll be getting a raptor seperately, the 74GB one (i currently only use 130GB on this HDD, mainly due to movies, so should be enough), and giving the old HDD to my dad probably who will hopefully buy it off me, cos he wants to buy a new one anyway.

Loads of people ahve several HD's in RAID. They're usually the torrent whores, and seeing as i have the 2mb connection that runs slower than my nan with some heavy shopping, im not one of them, so anything around or near 100gb is enoguh for me
(Also i don't like having too much crap on them, find it slows stuff down, harder to find things and makes viruses happy as Larry)

So any other comments besides the HD that wasn't even listed?

Hai there RAID 0.

Raptors are mainly used for C:\ drive to make programs and the OS go faster, what's the point having a second (or more) raptors unless you're a complete fruitcake with programs and need more than one harddisk ;/

Well those prices arent that bad considering you pay much more for a good graphic card, and how long can you have that before it's obsolete?

I was looking for buying an SSD, but since the transfer speeds are going up to 200MB/sec very soon, and the prices will rise on those first out on the market as well so I think I will wait a year or two more.

So you can stripe them in RAID 0 for increased performance, perhaps? :x

Pfft, or for the same price, get a second 8800GTS!! (oh noes, i can't SLi them, cos nvidia are wankers who restrict that ability to nForce boards which suck)

Your storage is the slowest performing component in most rigs.

It's surprising how many people don't pay attention to it though!
