Most Core 2 Duo's will OC well over 3Ghz with stock cooling, with decent cooling im hoping to get mine to like 3.5Ghz form 2.33.

I don't get overclocking. Why don't they just make the chips that fast to begin with? It's like when they go in to silent running mode in submarines.

Chip manufacturers just cut the chips from large wafers, it's easier for them to manufacture one wafer than it is manufacture varying speed wafers.

They just cut everything from the single wafer, speed bin it to see what'll run at higher speeds, and slap a speed rating on them.

The reason some chips will clock so well is because even though they're all cut from the same wafer the lower rated chips have higher demand, so the manufacturers end up selling faster chips as lower rated CPUs to fill demand.

Subs are usually diesel/electric or (nuclear) gas turbine/electric where you constantly charge a battery pack, then the final drive is powered by a big old electric motor... You can run the sub for a period of time on battery mode only (silent running) but for obvious reasons this can't go on forever before the noisy diesel or gas turbine are started up...

Change voltage settings or FSB multiplier it used to be. Bugger knows now, it's been years since i bothered, i just paid the fat cash to get a fasty, but it's probably all iPod activated now.
