New Budget PC Build

What do you think, any suggestions for different bits? The aim of it for for a cheap, quick Vista machine that won't struggle doing anything basic. No gaming to be done on it AFAIK.

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.86ghz Socket 775 FSB800 2MB - £73.99
ASUS P5B Socket 775 Core 2 ready P965 chipset onboard audio ATX - £59.74
OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC with LIFETIME WARRANTY - 39.99 inc VAT
Asus 8400GS 256mb DVI VGA HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - £28.25 (or preferably a silent equally cheap option)
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Cache - £62.22
Optiarc AD-7191S 20X DVD±RW/DL/RAM LightScribe Serial ATA Black Bare Drive - £19.98
Keyboard and Mouse - £20
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64Bit OEM 1PK DVD - £67.03

All from Ebuyer. Not sure on the case yet though.

Any thoughts?

If you want a really cheap system, look to AMD still...

ASUS M2A-VM HDMI 690G Socket AM2 £39.99 inc VAT (the gfx on this is OK for anything outside games)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1GHz) Socket AM2 Energy Efficient £41.95 Inc. VAT

etc...

Why the hell do you want a machine just to run vista? Vista is complete pants with skid marks on it. The only OS I'd use for dual cores right now is winXP64.

Vista aint so bad, but tbh, I don't use it myself. Could anyone enlighten me as to reasons why not to use Vista?

Funny since I did that 1 month after it was out and even stated at the time I'd probably go back to it later once the initial teething problems were worked out.

Selective memories are a good thing.

Id change the CPU.

For £20 more get a 6310 , you can overclock it to stupid speeds if things are too slow, its a big step up from the 4 series even at stock speeds.

Well worth that bit extra cash.

Apparently the one I chose is very overclockable. This PC is just for my Dad's missus though, she is very unlikely to be playing games and barely knows her way round a computer, so keeping the cost down is the main aim. Having said that, I won't get an AMD

Best value for money powerful chip has to be the E6550:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130485

I'll probably end up with one of those early next year when I (hopefully) build me a new PC.

Asda are currently doing a pc for £190 and a monitor for £100. The only downside is it has 512 MB RAM which would need upgrading but still works out quite cheap.
