Nvida 8800 gts 640mb - £200

Which is the most 'sensible' one of the three to buy, is the memory increase on the 640mb 8800 worth it?

Any other suggestions are good, I know what you nubs are like.

I have the 8800gts and its a stunning bit of kit, custompc.co.uk reckon the extra money for the 640 over the 320 is worth it (I have the 640).

Last night I had a 22" and the 40" running from it with Team Fortress 2 on the 40" and a film on the 22" and I was getting no problems at all from it. I am not saying the other cards can not perform as well, I just know how good this card is.

After just recently spending 2 hours uninstalling an NIC driver that crashed Windows every time you tried to uninstall it, I'd rather beat myself to death with a shitty stick than touch an nvidia product right now.

Apparently the 8800 GT can out perform the 8800 GTS and is cheaper.

I would deffo go for one of the nvidia ones. Even tho I'm an avid ATI fanboi, nvidia is the way to go these days. ATI really cant compare atm. Unless its for an HTPC, then the HD 2600 + rules.
But, go for the GT, buy som extra cooling and overclock.

Oh, and to add to your ponderings, there's a GTS 640mb revision coming out next month that looks to be faster than the GT, but around the same price as the current GTS.

And then we have the voodoo 2 !

I was confused by the comparisons with the GTS, no one said anything about the X.

I may wait a month.

I'll get the benchmarks, which are actually quite amazing, considering the price and the effiency of the thing. They've even managed to make the card smaller rather than having those 30cm monsters they had last year.

















It's so close to the GTX is so many of the benchmarks it's amazing for the price.

Get an ATI HD3870, they are as fast a the Nvidia's but also support directX 10.1 (aka vista SP1)

Surprisingly, nvidia NIC drivers and nvidia GPU drivers are both made by nvidia!

As far as i know they test on stock speeds.

Nvidia only make onboard adapters, so you just disable them in the BIOS.


And I guess you could wait a few months for the 8900 cards to come out and see what prices they're gonna have on them, which will most likely be DX 10.1 compatible.

Though I haven't heard anything about the 8900's, dunno if Nvidia ditched them.
