I'm currently on BT with the BT Hub thingy downstars. I'm running my PC upstairs and to say the wireless connection is a bit shit is a massive understatement.

I have a telephone extender wire shoved through the wall for my second Sky Box which is on the same line as the BT Hub.

The question is could I plug a second modem into this line to obtain the lovely wired reliable wired connection?

I'm thinking not, but....help?

don't think so :/ you can still use the BT hub like a wired router though and just run a cable up the stairs again.

BT hub, is that the same as an adsl modem?

If the problem is just a dodgy wifi connection, you might be able to work around that. You can get kits that use the mains electricity supply to extend the network connection, they work in a similar way to how baby monitors work. Not sure if there is any downside to them though, particularly with regards to latency and online gaming.

Yeah the BT Hub is a ADSL modem amongst other things, but its also wireless and a bit shit. Using the same telephone line it has a point upstairs I want to know if I could put another ADSL modem on that point and use it as a wired connection.

Effectively having two ADSL modems on the same telephone line.

serial connecting to another telephone socket is not very good either especially when it comes to adsl equipment.

Should be connected to the main telephone socket to avoid connection losses

Could try upgrading the wireless if you don't wanna piss around with cables. Like superG or something, or if you have the money, then N.

I'm 100% certain it won't work. You'll be trying to put two of the same frequency range down one line, neither line will work if you try, + you'll most likely need a second broadband connection to allow you to log in to your ISP, which again won't be possible on the same PSTN line.
