Christmas

Ok, firstly, I love the whole 'family' bit of Christmas, watching my daughter unwrap presents and all that stuff is great.

Before she was born, I also used to like the 'throw a house party and get completely hammered' part of Christmas too.

But I hate everything else.

Seriously, going shopping at the minute is like an endurance test for the S.A.S or something.
I stopped into ASDA in wolverhampton yesterday , had to pick up a couple of things for the wife, and its outside the town and easy to park.

Only having 3 things, I thought go to the scan it yourself bit, and avoid the queues. Except the ignorant fucking people had decided that they would take their 100+ items in a trollley through that bit too, because of the queues at the regular checkouts.

I got into an argument with the staff about it for letting them go through the less items isle , and got the response 'its busy'.

So, said I, instead of 30 or so regular checkouts busy, and people with less items moving through the self service quickly , you have all checkouts with huge queues, and people waiting 40 minutes to pay for 2 bags of kettle chips and a strawberry cheesecake.

That was december 3rd.

22 days to go.

I hate christmas.

I love Christmas for the time of work and the New Year celebration shortly afterwards.

That is about it. I feel relieved after its all done.

I hate Christmas.

I complete agree with you Vob, people running around panicking buy corpeous amounts of food shopping to which they dont actually need.

Stopping me from going to buy my sandwich at lunchtime in town - because every man and his fucking dog, and thier grandma is pottering around in front of you saying how 'cheap' the tinsel is this year.

FUCK.
OFF.

I hate christmas.

humbug, I hate being guilted into going to stay with my parents to eat a meal that I don't want and then being bored as there is nothing to do there.

And presents annoy me. If i want something i just buy it so there is litterally nothing that anyone can get me that makes me think "aww thats awsome" anymore. I have demanded all my shopping be done at toys'r'us this yeah so I can have fun on christmas day.

Christmas is all wrong in Korea.... Everywhere is open, and it is more like valentines day in the UK - a day for couples to exchange gifts and go eat together. Parents usually give the kids cash to go buy some candy, or spend a few hours playing starcraft. So little stress

I know what you mean, it's like Dawn of the fucking Dead out there, is it really so hard to work out what you want, where you're going to get it from, go to the shop, pay for it, and go home? And do you really need enough food to feed a small African nation?

My solution is to buy as much as possible off the internet, do food shopping late at night when there's no fucker there, except for fresh food which I get from local shops.

Christmas for me at least has been shit since my dad went out to work in 1983 and promptly dropped dead thankfullt he wasnt burned to death or anything nasty like that (he was a fireman) but given he'd just got his engine back to the station from a shout before his heart gave out i'm thankful his death only hurt us..

It picked up when my kids were young but now as surly teenagers the whole father christmas bit has passed and frankly it can be far enough away for me

Oh and just to fucking top it off while i'm writing this post last christmas by fucking wham is on the radio...wheres the fucking knife i want to slit my wrists

This is the bit i dont get too.

I see people with not one, but two shopping trolleys full of junk food, loading up credit cards to buy it because they can't really afford it.

Seriously, I like the good life, I like food, and I love drink, but there is simply no possible way a family can eat that much food before its only fit for chucking away. I find it obscene.

Supermarkets are shut for 2 days maximum , no one is going to starve for fucks sake.

People here buying food they cant afford and dont need , so they look good to the neighbours , kids in Ethiopia or mongolia et all starving.

Kind of goes against what the 'christmas message' is supposed to be.

We have a couple of friends staying with us this year, which is my excuse for buying so much food/booze.

I'm looking forward to sheer, unadulterated indulgence.... that, and no work for a cpl of weeks

I love Christmas - but I hate shopping. I dont live too far from the "Merry Hill Centre" - Vob will know it.
We know it as "Merry Hell", I went to get 1 item from there 3 weeks ago (all of my other shopping has been done online). After 40 minutes of trying to park I gave up and drove home. Ordered it online, it came the next day.

In summary, the Christmas spirit is ace. The hustle and bustle of panic buyers isnt
