Is it correct that Saddam Hussein should be executed

Out of interest, should we? Is it correct to wipe him off the face of the planet, or are we just sinking to his levels...

Are the 'civilised nations' not just as guilty by sitting back and doing nothing when him being powerful suited us (Iran / Iraq war), then turning face when his usefulness to us ended?

Stooping to his level. Besides, theres an Iraqi in my new guild right now who said life under Saddam was so much better than the shite he lives in now.

When is it Mr Bush's turn to meet the gallows?

I say no. It is a publicity stunt engineered by the US. Executing him will not do any good to the people that suffered under him, and will only serve to give his supporters another reason to hate the west.

It is a very delicate time in US politics for Bush and this sentance coincides very nicely with his lowest approval rating yet. The people who are the supposed power in Iraq right now were put in place by the US, and their power is a by-product of the US invasion. This is not just the politicians, but the judges who presided over the trial. They have a vested interest in wiping him off the face of the earth - Had he been found not guilty, he would have been back as head of state and their power would be eroded - though the US would never have allowed that to happen. The trial of Saddam Hussain should have taken place outside of Iraq in a neutral country and any sentencing passed should be free of US interference.

If a neutral court had found him guilty (and they probably would have done), and then sentanced him to death then I could accept that, but the trial has not been about justice, but instead has been about the Bush popularity contest. The decision to end a life should never have come under these conditions.

It would kind of defeat the point to go into Iraq with the premise of setting up a free democracy then tell them what punishments to hand out to the criminals their courts give out.

I dont think he was ever going to get a fair trial there,he should have been sent somewhere nueteral tbh

He should just be left to rot in jail, but the puppet goverment seems to think killing him will end the mayhem,it wont i fear

If you leave him in Jail he will become a twisted Nelson Mandela type figure to his followers, if you kill him he is a martyr.

His trial in Iraq isn't really fair, but as Bucke said, it's a tactic to get the people in Iraq feeling like they have power, with the US pulling the strings.

Hmm I like the swiftness of Iraqi tribunals. Took them only 50 mins to finish it (him). Pretty one sided, dont you think? I think he deserves this punishment, just dont like the american part that much.

I only think its correct if George Bush was hanging right beside him for the tens of thousands that have been killed from his war crimes.

Saddam beeing executed is what the new iraq goverment wants, of/c under US and Coallision supervision or whatever. "The Puppet Masters"

If the FN had trialed him, he might have lived on in isolation under some nation supervision. Whover dares...

George bush hasnt done any war crimes... he's not attacked civilians, and barely controls the military as it is. The generals control the military more than GWB

And how much would it have cost to provide him with food/water/clothing/shelter/isolation for the rest of his life? Who would pay for it? The (currently) poor nation of Iraq?

You dont think that they would've come to the same conclusion had america not been the ones to take him out of power, and england had taken him out of power instead?

think about it, these guys likely have family members who've been killed as a DIRECT result of Saddamns actions, they're likely pissed at him and want him dead anyway.
