Bush: U.S. Will Stop N. Korea Nuke Moves

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061019/D8KRJNF00.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush said Wednesday the United States would stop North Korea from transferring nuclear weapons to Iran or al-Qaida and that the communist regime would then face "a grave consequence."

Bush refused to spell out how the United States would retaliate. "They'd be held to account," the president said in an ABC News interview.

In light of North Korea's Oct. 9 test detonation of a nuclear bomb, Bush warned that any transfer of nuclear material elsewhere in the world by the North would be considered a grave threat to the security of the United States. He previously used "grave threat" in relation to Iraq's Saddam Hussein, whose government was toppled in the U.S.-led war in 2003.
"If we get intelligence that they're about to transfer a nuclear weapon, we would stop the transfer, and we would deal with the ships that were taking the - or the airplane that was dealing with taking the material to somebody," the president said.

Asked how he would retaliate, Bush would not be specific, "You know, I'd just say it's a grave consequence."

"The leader of North Korea to understand that he'll be held to account. Just like he's being held to account now for having run a test," Bush said.
The United States repeatedly has said it does not intend to attack the North. But the Bush administration also has refused to take any military option completely off the table.

Shifting to Iraq, Bush said intensifying violence now might be compared with the Tet offensive in Vietnam beginning in 1968. The Viet Cong and North Vietnamese armies undertook a series of attacks that shook America's confidence about winning the war and eroded political support for President Johnson.

"There's certainly a stepped up level of violence, and we're heading into an election," Bush said. But he added, "My gut tells me that they have all along been trying to inflict enough damage that we'd leave. And the leaders of al-Qaida have made that very clear."

Bush said al-Qaida was very active in Iraq. "They are dangerous. They are lethal. They are trying to not only kill American troops, but they're trying to foment sectarian violence.

"They believe that if they can create enough chaos, the American people will grow sick and tired of the Iraqi effort and will cause government to withdraw," he said.

The military said Wednesday that 11 U.S. troops died in combat amid a security crackdown in Baghdad, putting October on track to be the deadliest month for American forces since the siege of Fallujah nearly two years ago.

Bush said the news of casualties "breaks my heart" but said it is surrender "if you pull the troops out before the job is done."

Is it just me finding the rhetoric he's spouting recently becoming more and more like a bid for global domination?

There is no evidence to suggest North korea have any connection to either Iran or any terrorists. In fact, given the distrust of any non communists a connection to al-Qaida seems highly improbable at any time.

The comment is also laughable when we remember who it was that furnished both al-Qaida and saddam Hussein with weapons, training and funding before they became 'the enemy' .

Its the old addage , 'do as I say, not as I do' , and smacks more and more of someone thinking they rule the world and make the rules.

It will all end in tears.

Or when the US elects a president that isnt a 33rd degree member of skull and bones.

North Korea spouted some propoganda about test firing a nuke and so the world went to investigate. Most of the world write it off as bullshit (too small explosion, too short range, etc) yet when the good old US of A go investigate they find the proof they were looking for and now have all the reason they need to start another war...

I'm not suspicious, honest!

I heard some talk about this... the 'truck sized bomb' they set off could have been just anormal explosive O.o It seems weird to me that we cant tell the difference between a normal explosive and a fucking nuclear one.

and how fucking nuts is north korea?! knowing full well what kind of gung ho leaders we have in the west, they taunt them with a supposed nuke! This is gonna end badly for the north koreans.

Russia was best placed to monitor the explosion and they reckon that if it was nuclear, it was a stupidly small and wasteful exercise. They reckon it was no bigger than a standard missile would pack. They also found no evidence from air asnd water samples of any pollution that you would expect a nuclear device to leave behind.

The yanks however have firm evidence of a nuclear test from environmental tests conducted after the russians had reported their results...

As for the North Koreans baiting the Americans... they have been doing it for years. North Korea is a stupidly poor country. People hunt rats for food. This tends to make presidents a little unpopular. The president has gone all out to convince people that the Americans are going to fuck them over at some point and so claim that they need to spend all the cash on defence. The crazy bastards would like nothing better than a war just so that they can say told you so.

Actually acording to data gathering shit, it was a blast 1/20th the size of hiroshima...less than 1 kilotonne but hardly a normal 'missle'.

Actually thinking about it, those intercontinental missles might pack a punch that big if they wanted to.

I don't think there's much oil in North Korea. I could be wrong though.

And a pretty easy country to take which would allow the US to better monitor China and Russia...
