Electronic Tagging...
Figures released today relating to crime committed by offenders who are on early prison release and have been electronically tagged show just how successful the tags really are...

Since the tags came into effect in 1999, tagged offenders committed the following:

1 murder
4 manslaughters
56 woundings
700+ assaults
100 possession of an offensive weapon
1 causing death by reckless driving
100 obstructing a police officer
16 other violent attacks

I found one link that suggests that around 27k people have been tagged in the uk since 99.

The original figures i posted only take into account the more serious offences though, they dont state for example, how often a curfew was broken, a tag removed or lesser crimes than htose mentioned.

well clearly they dont work looking at those figures, plus u got all the crimes some of them would have got away with while tagged.

best to just keep them in jail rather than tagging them and ltting them free sooner.

Figures like that are deceptive, there's no way of knowing what the figures would have been had all the people that have been tagged not been tagged.

well, there is really when you consider that most of the taggee's only have tags so they could be let out early... no tag = still in prison = not doing teh crime!

Replace conventional prisons with new, improved prisons, where the cells are just big enough to fit a toilet+legroom in!

They're criminals, they don't need fucking beds and breathing space! Sit em on the shitter, shove a food tray through every now and then. Easy peasy!

Or we could start using the more serious criminals as entertainment, Roman-style! Who wouldn't pay to see a lion devour seven unarmed convicts?
