I was at 3.6bill yesterday but then about 300mill dissapeared due to gall cruiser V finishing.

There was a free trial thingy on here somewhere, but I would suspect that the DL guides you to main EVE site. The forum site is worst bit of EVE, I think its hosted on the main game servers [as when ones down, so is the other] so it may just be a chance of catching it at a better time to DL.

This could all be just bollocks tho.

Aye im almost certain the forums/website is part of the game server, for example you can access you XML data/complete up the second skills.
Its all tied into the main database basically, which is used for everything.
As for the 500mb client youve still got another 200-300mb to go on top in recent patches.
Keep trying at different times, ive got 150kbps and sometimes as low as 15kbps its kinda dependant on how many others are using EVE-files.
