It's legal to keep them, and while certain states have different laws regarding permits I believe in my state a permit is not required.

But venomous snakes should NOT be considered "pets." They should be treated like fish... look, but don't touch.

Snakes are just snakes. Dogs can be heavily affected by their environment and handling. I suppose the real danger is the owners.

There's a little bit more to snakes. While snakes don't really ever "learn to like" being handled, constant handling will still get them more "used to it" and they will also be more calm as they learn that they are not going to be harmed.

So if you keep a big snake cooped up in a cage and toss it a chicken every few weeks it will certainly be more dangerous than a snake you handle often and feed on a regular schedule.

I dunno, my snake is a lot less dangerous if I toss it a bird every few weeks. You're right about the constant handling though, it seems to like that.

I used to keep a big millipede which could be poisonous, i didn't handle it very often but it was cool to watch scurrying round it's terrarium munching things.

Although it's not as fluffy as a kitty it was still a good pet.

I miss my milipede, he died of mold when i was on holiday
