I'm thinking about getting a smartphone (Music and internet, probably TV too) sometime after mid july....

My phone contract goes up in July and I go month to month (at the same price I'm at, but I can cancel at the end of any month) for 6 months. So that's the time frame I'm thinking.

I'm not wanting to spend a lot of money, but I'd rather get something I'll enjoy than compromise. I've been looking at the new iPhone 3G, for 200USD-400USD, it looks like a good deal. Especially as I've got some corp. apple discount thing...

Yeah, and I heard you can't set your own ring tone either. Some of the restrictions on it were idiotic. I'm working my way through the video podcast of the WWDC from yesterday to see if they've sorted all that out.

Some of the apps they've been demoing are quite clever, particularly the games that use the accelerometer and the touch screen, it's like a cross between the DS and a sixaxis controller.

The SDK seems pretty cool too, really easy to develop your own apps.

Not entirely sure why I'm looking at it, I don't use a mobile enough to justify the cost...I just like looking at new gadgets.

heh, I take it as an obvious thing to be able to download an mp3 and pull it over to the phone with use of an USB cable and set them as a ringtone

It's 2008, not the era when all phones had black/white screen with only option of buying ringtones.
