Because I've always been a fan of the american civil war.

I admire the confederate cause and dedication they had. Not the slavery ofcourse.

And I just love american civil war movies

Gods & Generals and Gettysburg

Just imagine a general sticking his sword into his hat and trying to rallying his troops behind and charge the enemy. Lovely !

Thanks Shuno, but I was thinking of alittle more action in the photos but thanks anyways

Did Vietnam even inspire any conventional "art" (Paintings, sculptures, that kind of stuff)?

It seemed to be more photographs, written accounts and music.

All the wars have been inspirations to great pieces of art in one way or another. The world wars were followed by the depressionists & many a great book is written by participants of the madness. It would be weird if such major events weren't followed by a cultural reaction.

The gulf war and the recent war on terrorism will also bring new classics and possibly form a new school of expression, but I dont think we have seen it yet since it's too close upon us in history. There has been a large number of pieces belonging to a more popular genre but I doubt any of those will be remembered for long. My guess is that the classics will be in a more direct political genre (Chomsky, Habermas, Moore et.c.) than before, both in message and in form.

I dont know if I agree that the pieces Target shows qualifies as "great art" in my book, but each to his own. :P

and to be on topic; no sorry, I dont know where to find stuff like that.

Well btw how can you call some picture(artwork) bad, good, great or whatever. I really can't stand some fucking proffessional critics who kinda say "that's good and that's not good". For fuck sake how the hell can they make an objective evaluation for such a subjective thing as art.

One example here: Some painter gets drunk and make some shity pic and the pic is "good" just coz some idiots gave the painter a certain a reputation.

Second (even better) example: Some poet wrote a poem while he was drunk 200 years ago. Now some idiots are trying to tell us what he was thinking with that poem. The worst thing is that the teachers at school are forcing us to accept the "opinion" of those idiots as an objective and the only explaination for that poem. Like they fucking know what the poet was thinking and trying to tell with his poem.

I can tell you wont be writing any poems that'll be remembered, or paint any pieces anyone but your mom puts on the wall.

Unless you take that anger and those feelings of being inadequate and try to put form to them on a blank canvas. I know you can do it! If you feel awkward doing so, there's always razors and myspace.com.

For the record here, and for path-x: I were being subjective in my evaluation of the art Target showed us so I dunno why you bitch at me about that.

Could be because you are a bitch and have your knickers in a twist?

http://www.dixieprints.com/vengeance.html

It almost looks like it's a photo, and with a focus of General Forrest in the middle. And the enourmous detail!

And the fact that he was one fucking killing machine isn't making the picture worse either

On the other hand, any art showing confederate/union soldiers is more or less good to me
