I'm not sure how it works, but I am guessing that if a person wants a games console, but would like internet access and the ability to do the occassional bit of word processing, a PS3 with Linux installed could be useful... Unless a PS3 already does all of those things of course (I have no idea). Maybe parents would like their kids to use it to do their homework?

A PC (that will play the latest games) is not a small addition to the home. It is very expensive and takes up a lot of room, so most people prefer not to own one. This could be a nice alternative.
