"Police are under pressure to meet the government target, set in 1999, that by 2009, 7% of police officers in England and Wales should be from ethnic minority groups."

One of the silly things about this is it's a blanket rule for all forces, when the % of ethnic minority varies from area to area... For example where I live ethnic minority < 1% - but the local police still have to find 7% from these people... Basically it means if you are from an ethnic minority you are all but garenteed a job with them...
